Why this exists.
An independent gas-cost calculator backed by public data — not a marketing pitch.
PumpPain pulls EIA weekly retail gasoline prices every Sunday — the same series the U.S. Department of Energy uses — and pairs them with NHTSA/EPA fuel-economy records to show you what a tank actually costs. No login. No tracking pixels. No GasBuddy-style station-by-station list that ends in a credit-card pitch.
Why this exists
Gas prices spike, the headlines explode, and nobody tells you what it actually costs your car to fill up this week. Most calculators are five years out of date or paywalled. We pull EIA weekly retail data every Sunday and surface it for free.
What makes us different
- EIA-backed. Same weekly retail series used by the U.S. Department of Energy.
- Independent. Not affiliated with GasBuddy, AAA, or any oil company.
- Free forever. Core calculator is and will stay free. Ad-supported.
- Crowdsource-friendly. Submit a ZIP price, earn a verified badge.
